Fitness Center and Pool

Activity Description

The Fitness Center & Swimming Pool are at the heart of Fairhaven’s commitment to encourage the interest of all residents in physical fitness. A professional Fitness Coordinator is on duty Monday through Friday, between 7:30 a.m. and 3:30 p.m., to provide assistance and advice. The Fitness Center and Swimming Pool facilities are also used in cooperation with the Rehabilitation staff as a follow–up to physical therapy treatment.

The Fitness Center contains a full line of workout equipment, including treadmills, bicycles, SciFit recumbent steppers, and Keiser strength builders. Also available are dumbbells and stability balls, and a Keiser Stretch Zone for floor exercises. Instructions for use are at each equipment site. Although not required, the Fitness Coordinator will recommend an individualized program after an initial fitness assessment. Group activities such as Muscle Toning, Yoga, Stretching and Flexing, Line Dancing, and Wii Bowling are also offered.

The Swimming Pool is suitable for lap swimming, as well as for group activities, such as Water Toning and Water Aerobics. Entry to the pool is facilitated by gently sloping steps with a handrail; there is also an automated lift mechanism. The Swimming Pool area includes a Spa, men’s and women’s locker rooms and showers (shared with users of the Fitness Center facilities), buoyancy devices, and a towel station.

Use of these facilities is free for residents and guests. However, users of the Fitness Center equipment must be at least 16 years old. Also, since no lifeguard is provided in the Swimming Pool area, residents and guests must be accompanied by at least one other person who is present at all times to assure that assistance or immediate call for help is available if needed.

The Fitness Center is open every day, 24/7, and the Swimming Pool is open, unattended, every day from 9:00 a.m. to 9:00 p.m.

The Fitness Center and Swimming Pool are located on the ground floor of the Beasman Center between the Library and the greenhouse, adjacent to the Shuffleboard Court exit.

Address all questions to Adam Decker, Fitness Coordinator, at extension 1396 between the hours of 7:30 a.m and 3:30 p.m., Monday through Friday.
